Little Wing

I love the big band arrangement of the song by Gil Evans.

Here is the version with STING in 1988. This would be Gil's last gig.

And I'm proud to introduce this one performed by SIBUSA SHIRAZU and Ohtsuka "saruhen" Hiroyuki on guiter.

Please check more videos of Shibusashirazu (渋さ知らズ) on YouTube.

Natalie Merchant

Because The Night - 10,000 Maniacs

That takes me back in 1993 when I got a job with a company. There was always sounded a radio, and this song was played frequently. I like Natalie's voice and tone.

Next tune used to be aired in 1998 on J-WAVE.
Kind And Generous from the album Ophelia

Here is a great version of the song with The Perkins Secondary School Chorus, live at the Perkins School for the Blind Possibilities Gala on May 7, 2009.

with The Perkins Trio, accompanied by Livingston Taylor on guitar and Brian Maes on piano.
Motherland

How beautiful song! And how beautiful voice the boy has!

MOTHERLAND

Natalie Merchant / Indian Love Bride © 2001
Where in hell can you go
far from the things that you know
far from the sprawl of concrete
that keeps crawling its way
about 1,000 miles a day?
Take one last look behind
commit this to memory and mind
don't miss this wasteland, this terrible place
when you leave
keep your heart off your sleeve
Motherland cradle me
close my eyes
lullaby me to sleep
keep me safe
lie with me
stay beside me
don't go, don't you go
O, my five & dime queen
tell me what have you seen?
the lust and the avarice
the bottomless, the cavernous greed
is that what you see?
Motherland cradle me
close my eyes
lullaby me to sleep
keep me safe
lie with me
stay beside me
don't go
It's your happiness I want most of all
and for that I'd do anything at all, o mercy me!
if you want the best of it or the most of all
if there's anything I can do at all
Now come on shot gun bride
what makes me envy your life?
faceless, nameless, innocent, blameless and free,
what's that like to be?
Motherland cradle me
close my eyes
lullaby me to sleep
keep me safe
lie with me
stay beside me
don't go, don't you go

Music Is The Key - Weldon Irvine

Music is the key
The key to harmony and
Melody is king
The beat is everything so
Come and join the band
And find true understanding
Vibrations all around
Create the sound.

Why don't you sing
Try harmonizing

Music is the key
Why not be free.

Now's the time to start
To liberate your heartbeat
To the Lord above
Submit to love.

All of me - Billie Holiday

I listened to this song for the first time on the movie "Lady Sings the Blues" when I was 10 years old. Diana Ross as Billie Holiday sung this song on audition scene in this movie.

The following video is the trailer of the movie though the scene is not contained.

Though I have the OST (2LP set) in my record archives, forgetting the contents.

I think she is not good as Lady Day because she is too thin and spritzy i.e. different type of singer. Of course Diana herself is a good singer for common listeners.

Sea Song

Robert Wyatt & Annie Whitehead "Sea Song" (BBC Four)

Here is a cover version by Rachel Unthank & The Winterset.

MASS対CORE / ECD,You The Rock

Microphones and the track were turned off during the live performance, because Tower Records who is the organizer of this show foresaw that an accident by audiences would happen. But 2 MCs were keeping on rapping without PA, audiences were corresponding and singing (rapping) the song along with them. There were filled with a sense of unity. Though the live was stopped by the organizer at last, it is known as a legendary moment of Japanese Hiphop renaissance year in 1996.

Disco on your side

GQ - Disco Night

Best hit single for GQ in 1979. The intro is very imaginative.

Then, here is a minor song.

soul on your side / rhythm makers (76' vigor records)

Well.., wasn't Disco Night a cover song?

Dave Holland Quartet - Black Hole #2 [1990]

Absolutely insane guitar played on Ibanez George Benson model by Kevin Eubanks. Excellent!

Dr. Lonnie Smith Great Organ Solo

Satin doll is hopping and dancing on ebonies and ivories. Nothin' but B3! The drummer Fukushi Tainaka is also great!

Cameo "I've Got Your Image" 1985

I love this song since 1986 when I got this song by 12inch single. Block chords by DX piano, muted single note guitar phrase, bass feelings, sounds of synthesizers, hi-hats, horns, ending synth solo, vocals. Totally perfect arrangements.

Here's LIVE VERSION! MUST WATCH!
